Client Evaluations

I bought this in June when I couldn't take the NYC heat anymore. My window unit broke at the end of final summer, and due the prohibitively expensive delivery/installation fees in NYC for a 4th floor walkup apartment with extra wide windows, I decided to get a portable standing A/C-- my first.
I'm confident a lot of the difficulties I'm pointing out here have to do with the fact that portable units are just not as efficient as window units, but this 12,000 BTU unit does not cool my apartment practically as speedily as my mighty little 8,000 BTU window unit implemented to. The nice thing about the portable unit which is an benefit over my old window unit is that although I have it installed in my bedroom, I can blast just my bedroom only (8 ft x 14 ft) by shutting the door, or angle it to cool the living room only (20 ft x 22 ft), or to hit both rooms. The bedroom gets cool adequate when I shut the door so that the unit is cooling my bedroom only (and the temperature reading on the unit can get down to 73 degrees) it is a challenge to fully cool the living space location on a actually hot day, but that was an problem even when I had my window unit (also installed in my bedroom). When I do try to cool just the living room (essentially dragging the unit to the doorway of the bedroom and blasting it only into the living room), whilst the living space can sometimes cool down to a comfortable temperature, the bedroom then heats up mainly because the PVC exhaust pipe leading from the unit to the bedroom window gets quite hot.
It is also quite noisy. The very first week, I could hardly fall asleep since of the noise. It is like sleeping close to a generator. I guess I've gotten utilized to it by now, but I without a doubt think that it could have been developed much better to be quieter. Also, even on low speed, it really is just as loud as when it's on high speed.
Beware that all portable units will need some type of exhaust pipe to be connected to the window so that the heat generated by the unit can escape. You only need a modest window, having said that, much smaller sized than an A/C would want, so if you have a basement apartment with a modest window, you'd almost certainly nonetheless be in a position to accommodate this unit.
If you have a living situation that will allow a window unit to be installed even more readily and inexpensively, I would absolutely advise that. For those who cannot install window units for whatever cause, this portable unit is OK, but I wonder if there are even more effective, quieter units out there. Also, I from time to time wonder if I created the suitable decision to maintain the unit considering that portable A/C's expense additional than window units, and possibly I should have just sucked up the outrageous installation charges connected with a window unit which might have been a more effective cooling system.

I purchased this item from BJ's. It looks identical but has a component number CPN12XH9. I am employing this air conditioner in a room about 14 x 14 x 7 that gets to about 85f on a hot day. This unit struggles to get it any lower than 75 though I have it set to 70f. The interface to the outside window is rather cost-effective. It is a thin piece of plastic that is two sections that fit one inside the other and slide to adjust to the window width. The two pieces of the window piece have distinct heights (becasue a single slides inside the other) so it does not close properly around the window opening and leaves a gap on the leading which enables all the cold air to escape and bugs to enter. They don't supply any gaskets to seal about the window and the instructions suggest you use tape to seal the openings. It is a very shoddy style indeed. This air conditioner is bearly adequate for this rather modest room and I would think about any larger size space would be a genuine situation for this unit to manage.
